In order to tell the story of Professor Godnat, there are a few things we have to do together...First of all we need to rest our eyes. So rub your hands together till they are really warm, and put your warm hands over your closed eyes....Can you feel how the heat goes from your hands to your eyeballs. Nice isn't it. Keep your hands over your eyes but make a little room for your eyes to open. Now gently open you eyes and look into the complete darkness created by your hands. Remember to look to your left and right also, and up and down. Explore the darkness for a little while.
It is pretty dark isn't it? sort of like sleeping without dreaming.
Good, now before you remove your hands close your eyes, and get comfortable. Now that we are ready, the story can begin.
The story of Professor Godnat starts a long long time ago. Long before there were any living people, before monkeys, and even before little mice. More than 3000 million years ago.
3000 million years ago there weren't much here on earth besides water, some odd looking landscapes and a few very small animals. I say animals but really they were more like little living things. Little creatures that where so small that you and i would not be able to see them without a very big microscope. Infact they were so small that they are called microorganisms by scientists today. It was a pretty dangerous place here on earth 3000million years ago, so they only had very small and short dreams, and mostly be about were to find food, or hidding places, and other important things like that.
But even small dreams are sometimes nice to remember. And that is the real problem about dreams. Were do they go when we are not dreaming. What if a little microorganism had a nice dream and it would like to dream it again, or tell a friend about it? Maybe the dream was about her favorite dish, or a nice place to swim were the water was warm.
Do you remember one of your dreams?
Well you probably remember that when you dream it feels like it is really happening doesn't it. Almost like if the dream was not a dream but real, like you're really flying, or walking through walls or riding on a unicorns back. It is almost like when we sleep we are given a key to another dimenson where anything can happen. Flowers can talk, tortoises can fly, trees can sing and mountains can walk.. And you know what? Sleep is almost like a key. A key to another dimension. The dimension of dreams
3000 million years ago when the microorganisms first started to dream, first started to visit the dream dimension with the sleep key, the dreams were very simple. But soon and fast the dreams became bigger, longer and in color, and some of the dreams where really beautiful. Dreams of wonderful things, like living clouds with british and french beards eating grapes and playing bird toosing. Fantastique thrilling emotions, like sneezing. But they were still only there for a short time and then they would be forgotten. No-one would remember them. No-one could catch them and keep them for studying or keep them as little dream films for others to watch and enjoy. What a shame not to be able to remember a good dreams.
And so, for millions and millions of years dreams came and were forgotten and lost, and no-one would really noticed them. How can you notice something you forgot? Try to remember something you forgot and tell me about it. It is impossible right? because you forgot.
